Appropriate width for men's wedding band?

January 25th, 2011

I need to know what mm/width I should get my soon2be husbands wedding band in? It will be a plain black tungsten band but I am unsure of the width. I am picking it for him, since he does not like going to try things on…..he says he trusts my judgment.

Anyway, he is 6 feet tall and wears a size 11 ring finger. I was thinking either a 6-8 mm but am unsure, he has large has(IMO). I just dont want it to be too overpowering or too small. What do you think?

Where can i customize a ring?

Where can I resell a Tungsten ring?

December 30th, 2010

I have a Tungsten wedding band, size 7 for men. It is silver/black, and I need to sell it. I tried at the pawn shops here, but they all say they don’t buy Tungsten rings, but they wouldn’t say why. I tried the jewelry store that I bought it at as well, but they don’t rebuy rings. Also, side question, is the cash4gold reasonable on buying ring settings without diamonds in them?
I haven’t tried Ebay or Craigslist as of yet. I wasn’t sure if there was somewhere I could have a better chance at getting back most of the cost with or not. It certainly wasn’t a cheap ring. Is the lighbulb answer serious? I wouldn’t think they would buy them. However, I wasn’t sure about specific stores, or metal factories, or something. Sort of like the cash4gold but for Tungsten or something. I know it’s a pretty specific metal so that could be why the pawn shops won’t buy it.

Has anyone got/had a Tungsten Carbide ring?

November 25th, 2010

Would just like to know people opinions on this material, ive never heard of it before but as its durability is supposed to be good, it sounds good for Hubby to be’s wedding band.
Any reviews anyone?
x
Thanks guys, luckily i seem to have found a site that can engrave on it if i want and they supply special instructions on how to cut off the ring if need be……scary thought that his wedding ring would mean he has to lose his finger in an accident….but i also heard that if it receives an impact hard enough it would shatter rather than squash.
just found this

Mens Wedding Ring Help?

November 24th, 2010

Ok, my fiance and I are going to purchase my ring after work today but I am torn between 2 different ones. One is a very nice white gold. The other is a tungsten band. I like them both for many reasons.

White Gold
It looks much fancier and is very shiny. I have lighter colored skin and it matches my hand. Gold is easy to work with, it can be re-sized if my hand gets bigger. But, the color will fade so it does require some maintenance.

Tungsten
Much stronger metal that cant scratch. This ring stands out more and is darker than the white gold. The ring is cheaper. But cant be re-sized and I have heard rumors that if the ring needs to be removed in an emergency, it cant be cut off. I have read websites that say this isn’t true, but have heard from a lot of people that say it cant be removed.

I really like both rings, so I just need to decide which to go with.

Also, is there a difference between tungsten and tungsten carbide? or are they the same thing???

Any help would be appreciated : )
Also the tungsten ring is wider than the white gold. I could get the larger white gold, but it doesnt look right on my hand.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of a tungsten ring?

November 10th, 2010

My fiance and I have been looking at wedding bands. He is an electrician is and does a lot of hard work with his hands. We were told that a tungsten ring would be good for him because it is such a strong material. Does anyone have any personal experience with a tungsten ring? Do they really hold up well? Thanks in advance!
I looked it up and found this about cutting off tungsten rings…

Can a Tungsten ring be cut off?
Yes! Please be aware that in any situation where there might be a medical necessity to cut off or remove a tungsten ring–for instance excessive weight gain, hand injury, etc.,–removing a tungsten ring doesn’t pose much more of a challenge than cutting through a gold or platinum wedding band. In our own jewelry shop, as in many other jewelry shops, we have a cutting tool designed for cutting titanium and tungsten wedding bands. In addition, tungsten bands can be fractured into pieces using vise-grip pliers. When we contacted our local hospital emergency room and asked if they were equipped to remove tungsten wedding bands in an emergency, they told us that most hospital emergency rooms are prepared to handle almost anything, and assured us that it would be no problem for them.

During our 30 years of jewelry repair experience, we’ve only seen a dozen or so rings that have been c

Help, my wedding ring is too loose!?

November 9th, 2010

I was recently married, and I am having an issue with my wedding ring being too loose!
When we purchased it in the store, it was too loose, so we went back and measured my finger, and ordered a size a half a size smaller. It came in (which can’t be returned because of special order). It still felt a little loose, but they said your fingers will swell. Most of the time it fits ok, but moves around on my finger. If I put soap on my hands, or if I am in the shower and my fingers are just pointed down, it will fall off from the weight alone. It is tungsten, so it cannot be sized because it won’t hold solder.
I was wondering if anyone out there has had a similar experience, and what you did to correct it? I tried to find the rubber/plastic ring sizers, but since it is a male wedding band, most of the sizers are made for smaller rings…
Ideas? I would hate to lose it!
Thanks.

black tungsten rings, alloyed with nickel?

November 4th, 2010

Is there a site online or a store where I can design a custom wedding band with inset stones on an alloyed nickel/black tungsten ring?
That wasn’t helpful, and a bit bratty. :/ I would need a link, I’ve been looking but can’t find one.
Thanks, but anyway it ends up alloyed (I probably remember the alloy wrong) I need some way to customize it.

Someone at Kay Jewelers said that Titanium and Tungsten crack fairly easily?

November 3rd, 2010

My fiance and I were looking at wedding bands last weekend, and just for an idea, we went to Kay since it’s right by our house. The lady at the counter told us that the Titanium and Tungsten bands are very popular, but they are known to crack fairly easily, and persuaded us to go with a gold wedding band. We have not decided yet. We were just getting an idea of what he likes. Has anyone out there ever heard of this happening with Titanium or Tungsten?

What is the difference between these 2 rings?

October 27th, 2010

The first one is stainless steel, the second is tungsten. Why is the stainless steel so much more expensive? I thought tungsten was better? Any advice would be great! Thanks so much.

Which wedding band do you like the most? Repost?

October 25th, 2010

Guys, which ring would you like?

I’m trying to find a wedding band for my boyfriend/fiancee. We’re pseudo-engaged I guess you could call it. I know, it’s strange, but we’re young so it’s like a pre-engagement. Anyway, I’m trying to find a ring for him, which of these would you like? Or, do you see another one you like better? I don’t care about price….

Really I’m having trouble deciding between the crofton and the monroe….
He is the one that asked for it. So, please, don’t tell me it’s ridiculous. I didn’t even think of it. He ASKED me for one.
Look, I KNOW these are wedding bands. I KNOW men don’t wear them until they’re maried. He ASKED me for one. So please, just give your opinion on the rings. Thanks.

What's the durability of titanium or tungsten vs gold?

October 24th, 2010

I’m trying to pick out a wedding band for my husband-to-be. A lot of people I know get titanium or tungsten rings instead of gold, but how durable are they? My fiance is a mechanic and works a lot in construction- so we’re looking for something that won’t be scratched and banged up easily.

10 POINTS TO BEST ANSWER, Which wedding band looks better?

October 23rd, 2010

First of all, before you criticize me for buying a tungsten band , I’m a Airplane Mechanic. In the past 10 years I have broken 1 gold ring at work, and destroyed about 3 titanium casual rings. So the local ring shop recommended tungsten because it does not scratch, so here they are. Now before u see the cheap price tag, just remember these bands are about 5 times as much if you buy em from a walk in store.

( This one looks silver, but it’s darker, a very shiny gun Metal grey color almost )

( This one is a solid silver color, and has a higher shine. Also is not grey, solid silver color)

What to do with wedding band?

October 22nd, 2010

My fiance` and I broke up and now I’m trying to return his wedding band. However the jewelry store will not let me return it or give me store credit because I’ve had the band for over 100 days. He has never worn it and I don’t know how to get rid of it! It’s made of tungsten so I can’t even sell it to a gold dealer. Any suggestions?

can someone wear an alternate wedding band?

October 19th, 2010

I’m in the US military and i just got married. the ring i chose was a tungsten carbide wedding band, because of its strength and shine even after a rough life. well, come to find out, tungsten can’t be cut or bent and there are few ways to destroy it, in everyday life. they have attempts to destroy it on YouTube.com, if you’re ever interested in watching someone try to destroy different types of wedding bands. its highly unlikely but likely enough that it could pose a safety hazard in my work environment, and if (for instance) my hand was ever smashed and began swelling, I would basically lose my ring finger. so as an alternative, i was going to buy an alternative ring to wear at work. i was thinking black titanium (tungsten is 4x stronger than titanium). I love my tungsten ring and get compliments daily on how good it looks. its nice because I know in 10 years, i’ll still be getting compliments on how nice it looks.
I suppose I could just not wear my ring at work, but i am the type, now, that really feels like i need to keep it on me, all the time. so my question is, is wearing a second wedding band or alternate wedding and bad because its not the one my wife chose, or is this something I should bring up to the boss (my wife)? i’m pretty new to the marriage life, and i’m trying to do my best. My whole family (parents, aunts and uncles) are all divorced so i’m going to do my best with my wife and my own family.
thanks
Wow 7 hours and so many replies. Well, I guess I’ll take most all of your advice and talk to my wife, most likely buy a cheaper ring of her choosing, something I’ll wear when I’m at work, and take off when work really becomes serious work. If I lose it, it’s ok. If I can get 1 for a good price, I might buy a bunch.
It’s important for me to be a good husband to my wife. She is learning the hard way about being a military wife so I want to show her I support what we have just as much as she supports me. The more I think about it, I would almost not mind getting some easily removed metal that has little value. I wouldn’t even be against a rubber band, assuming it didn’t look like one (joke). I understand about the guys who have diamonds and what not but have them put on a tungsten carbide band and look at their hand. To me, it’s just as one-of-a-kind as the bond that brought the 2 of you together.

Tungsten Carbide Scratch-able?

October 18th, 2010

I Have This Tungsten Carbide Wedding Band With A Carbon Fiber Part In The Middle, I Know The Shinny Tungsten Part Of The Ring Doesn’t Scratch Because it’s The Tungsten Part Of The Ring But What About The Middle Part? It’s Covered By Something That Looks Like Glass Or Something Else That’s Clear So You Can See The Carbon Fiber In The Middle, It Is Really Smooth Where It Goes From The Clear Glass To The Metal Tungsten Part Like If It Was Just 1 Material. Like I Can’t See Or Feel Any Rough Part Between Those 2 Materials When I Rub My Finger Over It. And I Have Tried To Scratch The Metal And The Glass Looking Thing With A Nail and Nothing Happens To Both, I Know That If I Hit The Tungsten Part With A Metal Sludge Hammer I Won’t Scratch Even A Bit But I’m Afraid If I Do A Scratch Test With The Middle Part It Will Scratch Since It’s Not Metal. So Can Someone Tell Me What The Middle Part Is And Why It Looks Like It’s Part Of The Tungsten? And Also If It’s Scratch-able? Here Is A Picture Of My Ring: http://i28.tinypic.com/5ma89e.jpg
